A Facile Method for Removal of Methylene Blue Dye from Wastewater Using Biochar-Modified Chitosan Beads
摘要
Dyes play a major role in industry but when used in excess or not treated properly may get discharged into water sources causing toxic effects on human consumption. Various methods have been reported for the removal of these dyes from water sources in which adsorption has proved to be a simple and efficient method. Chitosan is a biodegradable polymer and is an environmentally friendly and sustainable substance which when mixed with biochar, has proved to be a successful technique for dye removal. In this paper, the preparation of chitosan beads using biochar has been described along with characterization like SEM and FTIR data. The parameters for adsorption have been optimized and it was discovered that it adhered to pseudo-first-order kinetics and the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The results obtained showed that the method could be used for removal of this dye from contaminated water sources.
