The treatment landscape for candidiasis, especially when attributed to non-albicans Candida species, is progressively posing formidable challenges. These hurdles stem from scarcity of available anti-Candida medications, compounded by issues of associated toxicity and emergence of resistance to existing antifungal drugs. Phytochemicals have held a central role in traditional therapeutic approaches targeting a wide spectrum of ailments. Plant-derived essential oils have garnered attention primarily for olfactory attributes. Their diverse bioactivities have been extensively explored for anticancer, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Researchers have dedicated considerable efforts in uncovering the antimicrobial prowess of essential oils and dissecting the actions of individual components. By unveiling multifaceted modes of action, researchers have provided insights into the potential of essential oils to mitigate microbial threats. The current chapter aims to shine spotlight on their potential as antifungal agents against non-albicans Candida species. The primary objective is to provide an in-depth analysis concerning the effectiveness of commercially available essential oils with inherent antifungal potency. The chapter endeavours to contribute to a broader understanding of how essential oils can offer promising avenues for tackling the escalating challenges posed by non-albicans Candida-induced candidiasis, and aspires to offer insights that could potentially pave way for innovative therapeutic strategies.
