Therapeutic Potential of Phytochemicals and Their Derivatives as Antifungal Candidates: Recent Discovery and Development

The present study provides a comprehensive and up-to-date synthesis of existing scientific literature related to the use of phytochemicals and their derivatives as potential antifungal agents. The review aims to critically analyze and summarize the current state of research in this field, exploring the efficacy, mechanisms of action, and therapeutic potential of these natural compounds against fungal infections. It assesses the antifungal activity of different phytochemical classes against a range of fungal pathogens, including common and drug-resistant strains, in both in vitro and in vivo settings. It also elucidates the diverse mechanisms by which phytochemicals exert their antifungal effects, shedding light on the biochemical and cellular pathways targeted by these compounds. The review highlights the most recent and significant discoveries of novel antifungal phytochemicals, as well as advancements in their development as potential therapeutic agents. Additionally, it explores the potential synergistic effects of combining phytochemicals with existing antifungal drugs, aiming to enhance antifungal efficacy and minimize the risk of resistance.
