This research paper delves into the 1997 Indonesian forest fire event, which ranks among the largest forest fire clusters in documented history, spanning from October 1997 till November 1998. The study leverages satellite data from the MERRA-2 dataset to scrutinize the chemical aftermath of this devastating fire event. By correlating the fire event with key compounds such as SO2, CO2, and NOx, the research employs advanced statistical techniques to uncover meaningful associations. Augmenting the analysis, the MODIS fire pixel dataset contributes spatial granularity to the correlations. The extensive geographical reach of the resulting haze, affecting regions as distant as the Philippines, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and northern Australia, accentuates the ecological significance of comprehending the emitted compounds. This research underscores the importance of quantifying compound emissions from such large-scale fire events and offers pivotal insights into their potential long-term implications for atmospheric chemistry and global air quality.
