The ideas are revealed that the pre-transition features are a consequence of the manifestation of low-stability states of both crystalline and amorphous solids. The purpose of the book and its contents are outlined retrospectively. The choice of materials for achieving the set goals is justified. The most important, from the point of view of the authors, the obtained results are analysed.
