The Skopos Theory and “Unfettered Translation”
摘要
It is a common knowledge that all actions have purposes. Modern German philosopher Immanuel KantKant, Immanuel once pondered on Skopos theorythe teleologyteleology of metaphysics. He believed that within the concepts used by reason in contemplating nature, there are teleological viewpoints or teleological concepts. Reason considers every existing whole in nature as a result of the simultaneous consistent activities of its various parts. Concerning organisms, each part seems to rely on the whole, determined by the form, plan, or concept of the whole. Each part is both a means and an end, and in the collaboration of the whole, it is determined by the concept of the whole.
