Global Citizenship Education

In a similar manner to active citizenship education, as demonstrated in the previous chapter, there has been a growing interest in, and use of, the term global citizenship education. The roots of global citizenship education can be traced back to the post-World War II era, marked by an increased awareness of global interconnectedness and the foundational efforts of UNESCO to promote peace and international understanding through education. The concept of global citizenship began to gain prominence in the late twentieth century as globalization accelerated, highlighting the interconnectedness of economic, technological, social, and environmental issues.
