The Current State of Civics and Citizenship Education

This chapter seeks to acquaint the reader with some of the areas of current research and debate within the field of civics and citizenship education, at an international level. In doing so, the purpose is not to summarize every avenue of research nor describe fully every instance of civics and citizenship education. Such a task would be beyond the realms of possibility. Instead, these articles have been selected and summarized because they provide a broad overview of the decisions relating to civics and citizenship education that have been undertaken at different jurisdictions.
