Case Studies of Citizenship Education

This final chapter before the conclusion (before the conclusion) is the most diverse within the whole text. It seeks to provide readers with a range of examples of civics and citizenship education from different geographies, with different purposes and different groups. While not strictly case studies in the academic sense, each of the articles below provides a detailed description of some kind of citizenship education program, the value of it, and the challenges that it faces. I have deliberately sought out non-Western examples of citizenship education for this section too: there are a number of articles below that raise questions about the Western ideas of citizenship and their validity in other cultural settings. Before presenting these different cases, it’s worth making a few introductory remarks about some commonalities.
