Design Guidance for Urban Space Development Quality

This chapter delves into the quality of urban space development, with a particular focus on how new urban design principles guide the high-quality development of urban spaces. It explores the evolving spatial quality needs of the contemporary era and introduces new concepts such as people-centric urban design, innovative methods like green smart city design, and comprehensive paradigms like whole-process urban design. It emphasizes that urban design constitutes an integral and indispensable component of urban space development planning and construction. Urban design should be integrated throughout the entire process of urban space development, with attributes of both integrity and adaptability. Its primary objective is to craft high-quality spatial environments tailored to diverse contexts. In contrast to traditional urban design approaches, new urban design concepts, ideas, and methodologies have undergone comprehensive transformations, embracing principles of holistic, inclusive, multi-elemental, multi-dimensional, multi-level, and leveraging new technologies and methodologies.
