Values of Urban Space Development

This chapter provides a detailed discussion of the development perspective on urban space. The development perspective represents people's understanding of what constitutes development, encompassing values and philosophy. This chapter, set against the backdrop of enduring conceptual challenges in urban construction, utilizes the experiences, both positive and negative, of international development theory and practice as a guiding thread. It delves into the evolution of people’s perspectives on development issues and, guided by the basic principles and methods of development theory, establishes eight scientific development concepts for regions and cities. This serves as the epistemological and value-oriented foundation for studying the basic principles of urban space development laws and their planning and design. Additionally, it forms the starting point, value orientation, and theoretical basis for the discussions throughout this book.
