Peritoneal inclusion cyst (PIC) is pseudocyst where fluid from a functioning ovary gathers in a closed cavity due to peritoneal adhesions. These adhesions are most commonly caused by laparotomy, with other potential causes, including endometriosis and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). These cysts are typically serous and grow slowly. Characteristically, PIC is an irregularly shaped cystic lesion that typically entraps or lies adjacent to normal ovaries, and expand along the surrounding structures. Because these cysts often shrink or disappear without treatment, so a conservative approach is recommended unless symptoms appear.
