Critical Whiteness in the Helping Professions

The helping professions are not immune to upholding dominant discourses that are underpinned by Whiteness. As a result, models of care alongside service delivery and provision are created with one particular way of knowing and doing, being and becoming. This failure to understand, let alone include diverse epistemologies and ontologies, deters health outcomes for many, perpetuating cycles of health and social inequalities across communities. This section in the Handbook of Critical Whiteness explore these concepts, while striving to make sense of how societies need to reshift and refocus their attention to developing professional responses that are helpful.
