This chapter ventures into the cutting-edge realm of technological innovations poised to transform environmental science and conservation practices. This chapter concentrates on three emerging technologies—Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, and the Internet of Things (IoT)—that hold immense potential for shaping the future of these fields. “Artificial intelligence (AI)” is introduced in the first section, highlighting its capacity to revolutionise environmental research and conservation efforts. With its machine learning algorithms and cognitive capabilities, AI can process vast datasets swiftly and accurately, facilitating tasks such as species identification, environmental trend prediction, and resource management optimisation. The discussion then shifts to “Big Data” in the second section, emphasising its role in handling massive datasets collected from various sources, including remote sensors and citizen science projects. Big Data analytics unveil hidden patterns and trends, enabling real-time monitoring of environmental changes and informing decisions for disaster management and climate change mitigation. Lastly, the exploration extends to the “Internet of Things (IoT)” in the third section, which entails a network of interconnected devices and sensors gathering and sharing environmental data. IoT technology enables continuous monitoring of wildlife, water quality, and weather conditions, empowering swift responses to environmental threats and fostering a global network for environmental conservation. Through these emerging technologies, this chapter illuminates a promising future for environmental science and conservation, driven by innovation and data-driven decision-making.
