Clinical Application of Total-Body PET/CT Fast Scan

Conventional positron emission tomography–computed tomography (PET/CT) scanners typically cover an axial field of view of approximately 15–30 cm and necessitate 5–9 bed positions to acquire a whole-body image (from top of head to mid-thigh). However, with the recommended acquisition speed of 2–3 min/bed position in current guidelines for full-dose (3.7 MBq/kg) 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT imaging, the total scanning duration can reach 10–30 min. This renders the completion of PET/CT examinations unfeasible for patients who are unable to remain still for prolonged periods of time, and those with limited ability to cooperate.
