Marine Resources: A Sustainable and Promising Source for Cosmetic Industries

Marine-derived substances or compounds are unique and have many benefits when compared to terrestrial sources. These marine-derived products also play an important role in cosmetic industries. Cosmetic industries also known as beauty industries formulate chemical compounds to create or produce many products that will serve the purpose of humans in skincare, hair care, makeup, etc. These cosmetic industries have a desirability toward the natural products that are derived from marine resources. Marine resources produce many useful active components, excipients, and bioactive substances that might act as natural skincare agents. This chapter gives a detailed explanation of how and what kind of bioactive substances from different marine resources have anti-aging, antioxidant, photo-protection, anti-acne, moisturizing, and skin whitening properties. It includes the uses and availability of bio-pigments extracted from marine resources as colorants in cosmetic industries.
