Protein Biomarkers and Its Applications in Oral Health

In today’s society, the prevalence of diseases is rapidly increasing owing to age-related risk factors and lifestyle. In terms of both direct and indirect health-care expenditures, inflammation-related diseases and chronic syndromes have already put a significant social and economic burden on the world at large. The branch of oral and dental health sciences has seen a paradigm shift in disease detection methodologies as more advanced research is being implemented in this field. With the advent of biosensors, accurate and swift diagnosis of various diseases has been possible. This chapter sheds light on the budding concept of biosensing in oral health care by point-of-care (POC) devices, traditional methods, and contemporary approaches.
