摘要

Insecurity has not always been an everyday occurrence in Nigeria. Before now, aside from the Civil War and the intermittent military coups, older Nigerians could only remember the Maitatsine riot of 1980–1985, and perhaps, the Zango-Kataf conflicts of 1992 as the embodiment of serious security breaches. However, in the two decades starting from 1999, security in the country has gradually degenerated and insecurityinsecurity diffused, becoming widespread and occurring intermittently until it became a vicious cycle that threatened the corporate existence of Nigeria.
