The Impact of Armed Conflicts on Women and Children in Nigeria

  • Oluwatobi J. Alabi

摘要

This chapter examines the widespread insecurity caused by various non-state armed groups in Nigeria, focusing on the severe impact on women and children. Beginning with an analysis of Nigeria’s endemic insecurity, the chapter highlights the activities of groups such as Boko Haram, bandits, herdsmen, and militants. Furthermore, it emphasizes how women and children are compound victims of victimization due to intersecting disadvantages. As a result of the prolonged armed conflict in Nigeria, education and healthcare have been severely impacted, further deepening women’s and children’s vulnerabilities. The chapter concludes with recommendations for targeted policy measures and gender critical conflict analysis to enhance the safety and well-being of women and children affected by these conflicts.
