Reimagining Agroforestry: Climate-Resilient Landscapes for Regenerative Agriculture
摘要
Climate change and environmental degradation are causing a need for a re-evaluation of agroforestry practices. This chapter explores how agroforestry can develop resilient landscapes for regenerative agriculture, restoring degraded environments, and improving climate resilience. It also discusses the strategic integration of diverse tree species, advanced soil health practices, and water management techniques to strengthen landscapes against climate instabilities. It also highlights the symbiotic relationship between agroforestry and regenerative agriculture, demonstrating how both approaches, with their emphasis on soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem services, can work together to restore ecosystems and mitigate the impacts of climate change. The chapter delves into modern agroforestry techniques that promise to revolutionise the agricultural industry, including dynamic agroforestry systems, climate-smart tree selection, and agro-ecological design, which offer the potential for increased productivity, enhanced soil fertility, and amplified ecosystem services. Furthermore, the chapter explains the concept of “carbon farming” and how agroforestry emerges as a potent tool for carbon sequestration. It highlights the potential of agroforestry in carbon offset markets and financial incentives, emphasising its role in climate change mitigation. The chapter also confronts policy obstacles, information dissemination challenges, and resource access issues that hinder the scaling up of regenerative agroforestry. Successful case studies underscore the transformative effects of large-scale regenerative agroforestry projects, emphasising their positive environmental, social, and economic impacts. The importance of monitoring and evaluation in assessing the efficacy of climate-resilient agroforestry techniques is emphasised. The chapter scrutinises cutting-edge remote sensing, data analysis, and monitoring techniques, offering valuable insights into the impact of regenerative agroforestry systems. The chapter emphasises the importance of institutional and policy support in promoting climate-resilient agroforestry practices at local, regional, and national levels. It emphasises the role of reimagining agroforestry approaches in rehabilitating ecosystems, mitigating climate change effects, and promoting sustainable land management.
