摘要

Personalized medicine is a new medical approach that uses a patient’s genetic profile to guide disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. It combines current medicine with molecular breakthroughs to target patients individually, increasing therapeutic efficacy. Developments in genomics and high-throughput sequencing technologies have enabled the discovery of genetic variations related to diseases, paving the way for precise diagnostics and targeted therapeutic interventions. Pharmacogenomics (PGx) is a crucial component of personalized medicine. Pharmacogenomics information helps physicians tailor treatment plans to maximize efficacy and minimize potential side effects. Personalized medicine appears to have promising results, and some of the potential advantages of personalized medicine include improved care effectiveness, preventive medicine, cost-effectiveness, new taxonomy for disease, and population health care. This chapter discusses the application of personalized medicine in different medical disciplines, such as oncology, cardiology, psychiatry, and endocrinology.
