摘要

Stimuli-responsive drug delivery systems (DDS) are designed to release drugs at specific times or locations within the body in response to various external or internal triggers. These systems are engineered to improve the therapeutic efficacy of drugs while minimizing side effects. Drug delivery systems that respond to stimuli can be broadly classified into three categories: thermally, magnetically, and pH-responsive. A new frontier in the molecular understanding of disease states has been opened up by stimulus-based drug delivery systems. In the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of numerous diseases, nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems provide enormous and promising benefits. This type of drug delivery system, also referred to as “stimuli responsive materials” or “environmentally-responsive materials,” involves the phenomena that modifies an activity at a specific site or target tissue to bring about beneficial activities for the drug release via a variety of mechanisms. In order to deliver therapeutic substances for the effective management of various diseases, various stimuli-based drug delivery systems have been investigated in this chapter.
