Cancer, as the second-leading cause of global mortality, underscores the critical importance of comprehending its multifaceted nature and prevalence. Despite significant strides in conventional therapies such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, recurrence remains a challenge for many patients, underscoring the imperative for deeper insights into cancer progression. Tumor development and progression are facilitated by profound molecular, cellular, and physical alterations induced by tumor cells within their host tissues. Traditional therapies, including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, alongside emerging immunotherapy, have demonstrated efficacy in eradicating or impeding cancer cell proliferation. The etiology of cancer varies depending on the cancer type and is often multifactorial. While some cancers arise from hereditary genetic mutations, others stem from environmental factors, lifestyle choices, exposure to specific chemicals or radiation, viral infections, or a combination thereof. The chapters delineate intricate targeting strategies and management approaches for tumors, encompassing the Tumor Microenvironment (TME), angiogenesis, challenges inherent in conventional cancer treatments, targeting mechanisms of various nanocarriers applicable to tumor targeting, immunotherapy, gene therapy, and more. A detailed exposition of tumor targeting strategies holds promise for advancing knowledge within the scientific community.
