Grain Refinement by Ultrasonic Treatment (UT) in Al–Al3Zr Composite

The current work aims to study role of ultrasonification during casting of aluminum-zirconium composite system. To accomplish grain refinement and upgrade the mechanical properties of Al–Al3Zr composite ultrasonic treatment UT has been applied. A microstructure investigation of UT composite has uncovered a significant reduction in Al3Zr particle size with respect to non-ultrasonic-treated NUT composite. And, thus good improvement in grain refinement was achieved.
