Investigating Microwave Joining as a Solution for Metal Plate/Pipe Connections: A Critical Analysis of Current Techniques and Applications

Microwave joining is an emerging technology that has the potential to revolutionize the way metal plates and pipes are joined together. This research focuses on the use of microwave energy for welding plates and pipes made of similar or dissimilar materials. The benefits of this method include faster welding times and improved energy efficiency compared to traditional welding methods. Additionally, it can be used for joining materials that are otherwise difficult to weld. The principles of microwave joining, its applications, advantages, challenges, and opportunities associated with this technology and the potential applications for this joining method in various industries were discussed. To assess the effectiveness of the microwave joining process, several characterization methods like visual inspection (scanning electron microscopy and spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction), joint hardness, the micro-tensile test, and microstructural analysis will be utilized to evaluate the quality and joint properties. Researchers can choose materials and interfaces with the aid of the current review study with required characterization and exposure time.
