摘要

It is known by every technocrat that fins help to enhance the heat transfer rate through increase in surface area exposed to convection heat transfer. The prominent aspect of the fins is their ability to enhance the heat transfer rate in the absence of active cooling mechanism, especially in the environments of lower heat transfer coefficients. This eliminates the need for active energy expenditure over the lifetime of the pertinent application. Hence, their systematic modelling and simulation-based analysis is paramount to enhance the heat transfer effectiveness of a thermal system. It is imperative for any researcher to obtain a thorough understanding of previous research progress in the relevant domain before proceeding with his/her own research work. Hence, this paper aims to present a comprehensive overview of various research works carried out in the domain of computational analysis of diverse fin configurations. The paper highlights important turbulence models and mathematical equations used during computational analysis. Such a computational analysis is significant since it enables the user to test the effectiveness and flow physics of enhanced heat transfer rate using fins. The central objective is to give dense, yet thorough consideration to various aspects of the research works published.
