TKA Development in Japan: ACTIYAS

  • Toshifumi Watanabe

摘要

The ACTIYAS is a PS prosthesis developed by Tokyo Medical and Dental University and Kyocera Corporation. Its primary aim is to support the Japanese lifestyle by allowing smooth deep knee flexion while maintaining stability and durability. The prosthesis is designed for Japanese patients, with features like minimal bone resection and a component shape optimized for the anatomy of osteoarthritic knees in the population. It uses zirconia ceramics for the femoral component, providing high durability and biocompatibility, especially beneficial for patients with metal allergies. Although the ACTIYAS shows strong clinical results, some limitations exist, such as size variability for larger patients. Clinically, it has shown comparable performance to globally recognized PS models. The survival rate of the prosthesis at nine years is 95.5%, and patients have reported good functional outcomes.
