Orthosis has been in use since a very long time and has constantly seen innovations in its applications, materials and designs. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the applications of 3D printing technology in orthotic braces, spanning both upper body and lower body orthoses. Orthotic braces serve as crucial supportive devices, offering stability, alignment, and rehabilitation for individuals with musculoskeletal disorders or injuries. Traditional manufacturing methods have some limitations on customisation, comfort and functionality. The flexibility achieved in 3D printing revolutionises orthotic brace fabrication by enabling precise customisation, lightweight designs, and intricate structures. The chapter explores how 3D printing facilitates the creation of orthotic braces tailored to the anatomical contours and biomechanical needs of individual patients. From upper body braces supporting the neck, spine, and arms to lower body braces aiding in gait correction and joint stabilisation, 3D printing offers limitless versatility and adaptability. The end-effects and use of advanced materials in additive manufacturing techniques to optimise orthotic brace performance, enhance patient comfort, and reduce treatment times are also discussed.
