This chapter presents an in-depth exploration of the applications of 3D printing technology in upper limb prosthetics, specifically focusing on hand and finger prostheses. Upper limb prosthetics aim to restore functionality and aesthetics for individuals with limb loss, presenting unique challenges in design, customisation and usability. Traditional prosthetic fabrication methods often struggle to replicate the intricate movements and dexterity of the human hand. The advancements in 3D design and printing offer multiple opportunities for customisation, precision and versatility for developing prosthetics and its components. The chapter discusses how 3D printing enables the creation of highly personalised prosthetic hands and fingers(functional as well as cosmetic), tailored to the specific needs and preferences of individual users. Increasing choice of advanced materials and additive manufacturing techniques, prosthetic designers can achieve lifelike aesthetics, lightweight structures, and functional articulation. This chapter explores how 3D printing facilitates rapid prototyping and iterative design improvements, accelerating the development process and enhancing prosthetic performance. Through the presentation of case studies, this chapter discusses the transformative impact of 3D printing on upper limb prosthetics and the future opportunities to contribute to enhanced functionality, comfort, and user satisfaction for individuals with upper limb loss.
