摘要

In hospitalized patients, leucopenia is quite common. As a result, human pathogenic fungi like Candida sp. can cause severe secondary systemic infections termed generally as candidiasis. One of the causal organisms for candidiasis is the Candida tropicalis fungus. Although some successful antifungal options are available against this fungus , determining the susceptibility patterns of C. tropicalis can often be difficult, as these fungi are usually involved in chronic or continuous illnesses. Here we describe the key findings till date involving C. tropicalis species and provide insights based on non-tropicalis research as well. Topics of discussion include epidemiology, host-pathogen interaction, virulence mechanisms, therapeutic strategies, and drug resistance.
