Polyporoid, Hydnaceous and Thelephoroid Fungi 1: Species with Names Beginning with A–B

Basidiocarps annual, sessile, imbricatively superposed. Pilei semicircular, projecting up to 8 cm, 9 cm wide, 10 mm thick at base; pileal surface grey to blackish brown when dried, tomentulose. Pore surface pale yellow to vinaceous brown when fresh, becoming black when touched, pale grey brown when dried; pores angular to labyrinthine or lamellate, 1–3 per mm; dissepiments thin, lacerate. Context heterogeneous, upper layer pale coffee colour, spongy; lower layer at tubes pale wood colour, corky, up to 5 mm thick. Tubes pale wood colour, up to 5 mm deep. Basidiospores 4.6–5.5 × 3.2–4 μm, broadly ellipsoid, hyaline, slightly thick-walled, smooth, inamyloid, acyanophilic. Chlamydospores 7–8 × 6–7 μm, existing in context, subglobose, hyaline, thick-walled, smooth.
