Insights from the National Survey of Households with Children

The goal of this chapter is to provide readers with an understanding of the information available for studying remarriage in the National Survey of Households with Children (NSHC), a survey that has been conducted regularly since 2011 by the Japan Institute for Labour Policy and Training (JILPT). The strength of the NHSC is that it includes information on a wide range of life outcomes that allow for comprehensive comparison of the characteristics, life circumstances, and well-being of remarried mothers with their counterparts in first marriages.
