Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM)-Based Alpha and Beta Hand, Foot and Cloth Contamination Monitor
摘要
The hand, foot and cloth contamination monitor is required for monitoring the alpha and beta radioactive contamination on hands, feet and clothing of the personnel working in a nuclear plant. The instrument comprises a set of alpha and beta dual-phosphor scintillation detectors and associated transducers and electronics. A grid of special optical fibers is used to collect the light photons produced by the scintillator. The optical fibers are coupled to a Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM) to convert light into electrical signals. This paper describes the qualification of the integrated optical fibers and SiPM for this application of converting the light pulses produced by the scintillator due to radiation into electrical signals. The details of the construction of the instrument are also described in the paper.
