Impact of Wireless Channel Noise on Seamless Wireless-To-Photonic Symbol Mapping

This paper investigates the impact of wireless channel noise on seamless wireless-to-photonic digital symbol mapping. We show that wireless symbols incident on seamless wireless-to-photonic converters are mapped to the optical domain as noisy phase levels under the effect of wireless channel noise. We derive the variance and probability density function associated with the resultant noisy optical phase levels. We also show that cascading multiple optimally spaced receiving elements in the converter significantly reduces the symbol-error-rate in wireless-to-photonic mapping, thereby enhancing the noise performance of such communication links.
