Comparison of Communication and Optical Properties of Red, Yellow and Green Phosphor Using Blue LED Excitation

摘要

We report a visible light communication system using Blue LED as an excitation source and red, yellow and green phosphor for generating broadband white light. We found changes in the bandwidth, bit rate and optical properties of light generated using these standard phosphors commercially available for LED lighting. We report that the phosphor behaves as a low pass filter in a communication link which limits the bandwidth of the system and therefore gives rise to frequency selective fading. We observed experimentally that data rate is highest for red phosphor, therefore, it can be used for secure data transfer. Blue LED with RGB phosphor can also be used for indoor illumination purposes while red photons can be used for communication. Experimental results of rise time, fall time, bandwidth and data rate for RGB phosphor and their optical properties like color rendering index (CRI), full width half maxima, center wavelength, correlated color temperature (CCT), CIE 1931 chromaticity and full spectral acquisition are reported.
