摘要

In recent years, bioactive polymers have become increasingly prominent due to their multifaceted applications in biomedical sciences. These polymers, characterized by their inherent biological activity, possess a wide array of functionalities and properties that render them indispensable in medical contexts. Bioactive polymers exhibit unique traits such as biocompatibility, biodegradability, and the ability to interact with biological systems, making them ideal candidates for tissue engineering, drug delivery, wound healing, and biosensing applications. They can be tailored to emulate the extracellular matrix, creating a conducive environment for cell growth and tissue regeneration. They can also be functionalized with bioactive molecules, such as growth factors and peptides, to augment their therapeutic efficacy. Bioactive polymers contribute significantly to wound healing, functioning as dressings or coatings to foster tissue regeneration and expedite wound closure. Bioactive polymer-based biosensors enable sensitive and selective detection of biological analytes, facilitating rapid and accurate disease diagnosis. Their tunable properties and ability to respond to environmental stimuli make them invaluable in the development of smart materials for controlled drug release and tissue regeneration. The versatility and adaptability of bioactive polymers continue to inspire innovative research and hold promises for addressing emerging challenges in healthcare and biotechnology. This chapter succinctly highlights the diverse applications and significant contributions of bioactive polymers to advancing biomedical science and improving patient care.
