Effect of Stone Mining on Land Degradation and Rehabilitation Measures

This book chapter examines the intricate relationship between stone mining activities and their consequential impact on land degradation. The exploration encompasses a comprehensive investigation into the diverse facets of land degradation induced by stone mining, considering factors such as soil erosion, loss of biodiversity, and alterations in hydrological patterns. Through a combination of field surveys, remote sensing, and GIS techniques, the chapter provides an in-depth analysis of the changes in land cover and land use associated with stone mining. The subsequent portion of the chapter delves into the socioeconomic repercussions of land degradation resulting from stone mining, particularly affecting communities reliant on the affected areas for their sustenance. The examination uncovers a cyclical pattern wherein environmental degradation exacerbates economic decline, underscoring the interconnectedness of ecological and societal well-being.
