摘要

Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that plays an important role in protein synthesis and serves as a precursor for important neurotransmitters and hormones such as serotonin and melatonin. Its involvement in various physiological processes including immune response, growth, and reproduction implies the importance of tryptophan nutrition in farmed animals. Understanding tryptophan nutrition is crucial for meeting animal needs, promoting growth performance, and reducing stress levels. Although the tryptophan requirement may vary among different animal species, the significance of a balanced tryptophan diet is generally recognized. This review provides insights into the importance of tryptophan nutrition in poultry and ruminant production, examining the effects of dietary tryptophan concentrations on growth, stress response, and immunity. The results underscore the need for appropriate tryptophan supplementation to optimize the overall health and performance of farmed animals.
