The survivability of optical networks is a very important issue to address. Due to these networks’ high speeds and capacity for handling big data volumes, it is essential. In optical networks, path or link failures are highly frequent occurrences. A significant loss of data, time, and money could result from these errors. Restoring the downed network as soon as possible is necessary to reduce this loss. If the link is repaired so that the impacted traffic is swiftly and precisely rerouted using the available network resources, the impact of the failure may be reduced. Various survivability mechanisms are employed based on the specific requirements and network architecture. Managing failures of single links and multiple links is the primary focus. The path failure may be caused by several broken links. The current network survivability schemes have been thoroughly examined. Network protection schemes with regenerators make up the majority of these schemes (Zhou and Subramaniam in IEEE Network 14:16–23, 2000).
