Evaluating the Impact of Transportation Barriers in the Chemical Industry

Transportation plays an indispensable role in the chemical industry, facilitating the movement of chemicals and raw materials for production and distribution. However, transporting chemicals also presents significant challenges and barriers, such as security concerns, logistical issues, and infrastructure limitations. This study aimed to identify and analyse the transportation barriers in the chemical industry using the Fuzzy-DEMATEL method. Through a comprehensive literature review and analysis of industry reports, we identified 20 transportation barriers. The Fuzzy-DEMATEL method was used to assess these barriers and determine their impact on transportation operations in the chemical industry. Our findings revealed that uncertain transit times and poor transport infrastructure were the most significant barriers, having the highest impact on transportation. This study provides valuable insights into the transportation barriers in the chemical industry and underscores the importance of addressing these challenges to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of transportation operations. Our results can guide chemical companies, logistics providers, and policymakers in developing strategies and solutions to overcome the identified barriers and improve chemical transportation.
