Modelling and Analysis of Parallel Gearbox Shaft Housing

摘要

Gear noise and vibration is a major problem in many power transmission applications as is evident from the literature. This problem becomes more significant in applications with higher operating speeds, where the vibratory excitation is related to the gear transmission error. In the present work, a parallel shaft gearbox housing for heavy vehicle is modelled using CATIA V5. The developed model is pre-processed using HyperMesh software. Further the model is analysed for two materials, namely grey cast iron and aluminium alloy statically and dynamically using Abaqus. In static analysis, the stresses and deflections are determined for the two materials of the gearbox casing while natural frequencies and mode shapes are obtained using modal analysis. Based on the results, it is recommended to use aluminium alloy as the better material for the application.
