Identifying and Analysing Barriers to IoT Adoption in Logistics Using DEMATEL Approach

摘要

The significant role played by the Internet of Things (IoT) in realizing the Industry 4.0 concept is widely acknowledged. This study aims to identify, analyze, and scrutinize the primary impediments hindering the integration of IoT in the logistics sector. Through an extensive review of existing literature and the collection of expert opinions, noteworthy barriers to IoT implementation in logistics have been pinpointed. The research employs the DEMATEL (Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory) approach to evaluate these barriers and their interconnectedness comprehensively. This methodology provides valuable insights into the significance and consequences of various challenges, facilitating the formulation of effective strategies to overcome them. The paper delves into the importance of these barriers and elucidates their cause-and-effect relationships. Critical obstacles such as privacy and security concerns, data handling issues, operational infrastructure challenges, and IoT system governance have been identified. It is posited that eliminating these barriers would address them directly and contribute to removing most other obstacles in the logistics industry. The established cause-and-effect relationships aim to guide the logistics sector in implementing IoT in their supply chains. The outcomes of this analysis can be instrumental for industrial practitioners and managers in prioritizing key barriers and directing efforts toward their resolution, thereby facilitating the successful integration of IoT in the logistics industry.
