摘要

The rapidly evolving landscape of personal protective equipment (PPE) has witnessed groundbreaking advancements in recent years, driven by the urgent need to address unprecedented global challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and escalating environmental concerns. This chapter offers a concise overview of the latest research trends in advanced conversion technologies for PPEs, shedding light on innovative approaches that hold promise in enhancing safety, sustainability, and overall functionality. In the context of PPEs, advanced conversion technologies refer to innovative processes and materials designed to transform conventional protective gear into more effective, eco-friendly, and adaptive solutions. Recent research has predominantly focused on three critical aspects: material innovation, manufacturing techniques, and smart PPE integration. Material innovation lies at the core of PPE advancement. Researchers are exploring cutting-edge materials such as nanofibers, graphene, and biodegradable polymers to create PPEs with enhanced protective properties. Manufacturing techniques have also witnessed significant developments. Additive manufacturing, or 3D printing, is gaining prominence for its ability to produce customized, intricate PPE components with reduced waste. Integrating smart technologies into PPEs represents another notable trend. Wearable sensors, data analytics, and real-time monitoring systems are being incorporated to provide wearers with vital information on environmental conditions, PPE integrity, and physiological parameters. These innovations enhance safety by enabling proactive responses and ensuring optimal PPE usage. Material innovation, manufacturing techniques, and smart integration are the pillars of this evolution, promising a future where PPEs shield individuals from hazards and contribute to a resilient and eco-conscious society.
