Study of Geo-Technical Investigation in Umri Landslide Region in Haryana, India

摘要

Landslide is one of the major geomorphic hazards in India; occurrence of landslide in India is mostly observed in states like Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir (Western Himalaya). In southern Indian states like Kerala witnessed various devastative landslides, and the North-Eastern states also face minor or major landslides. Landslides in India have a close relation with monsoon; in Kerala most landslides take place during monsoon which is one of the major rainfall receiving states of India, the same scenario can be observed in the North-Eastern and Western Himalayan states also. In the Western Himalayan states major landslides are observed along the constructed national highways because of deforestation, slope cutting and improper slope stability measures. These are the major responsible human induced factors of landslide occurrence. In the present study a Geo-Technical experiment has been conducted on the Umri landslide, which is located in the Morni hills in Panchkhula district of Haryana, the landslide occurred along the Badiyal-Panchkula road. Here in this study an attempt has been made to conduct a geotechnical assessment of the landslide to suggest some suitable measures. Different soil samples were collected from different locations of the landslide for grainsized distribution analysis, soil moisture content assessment etc. Some results of the study suggest the soil of the study area is poorly graded sand type with less moisture content, and the study area has further probability of landslide reactivation.
