Multiple sclerosis (MS), a multifaceted immunological disorder affecting over 2 million individuals globally, results in varied neurological symptoms and diminished quality of life. Diverse therapeutic modalities include disease-modifying therapies (DMTs), immunomodulators, stem cell transplantation, and neuroprotective strategies. DMTs, encompassing interferons and fumarates, aim to modulate immune responses, while novel approaches like Bruton Tyrosine Kinase (BTK) inhibitors show potential in targeting B cells and microglia. Stem cell transplantation, notably autologous hematopoietic stem cell (AHSC) transplantation, garners attention with clinical trials demonstrating superiority over conventional treatments. Additionally, neuroprotective strategies focusing on remyelination and oxidative stress reduction offer promising avenues for MS management. Challenges and prospects in MS research emphasize the necessity for personalized medicine, robust biomarkers, and innovative therapies targeting underlying disease mechanisms. Despite advancements, addressing the progressive stage of MS remains a formidable task, highlighting the ongoing imperative for novel therapeutic innovations. The current intricate landscape of MS treatment underscores the continued need for research to enhance outcomes for affected individuals.
