Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation, FSW of Dissimilar Magnesium Alloys Using Eccentric Pins Configurations

摘要

FSW is a solid state welding used to join dissimilar material. FSW is a Multiphysics problem and involves heat transfer, mechanical deformation and phase changes and therefore a complex processes. Many parameters are difficult to measure in welding processes and therefore simulation of actual processes is very important. In this paper, the heat generation and temperature distributions are predicted using an analytical modelling technique that takes into account a variety of parameters while joining the two dissimilar plates. Heat generated for the tool is being accounted by the friction part of the process rather than the plastic deformation. A moving heat source is to be appended to the computational model by using DFLUX subroutine of ABAQUS. The simulations are to be validated with an experiment using a H13 steel tool and the parameters are to be optimized to give the optimum weld qualities. The simulation was done considering two different heat model, namely surface heat model and Goldak heat model. The surface heat model gives a more approximate result compared to the Goldak one.
