Modelling of Harmonic Filter—Improvement of Power Quality Indices Under Non-linear Loads: A Case Study
摘要
Currently, serious power quality issues are arising in power systems due to integration of renewable energy sources, usage of electric vehicles and various types of fluctuational, saturating and non-saturating electrical loads such as arc furnaces, thyristor converters, power capacitors which draws non-linear characteristics of current. Therefore, mitigation measures should be considered to deal with power quality issues. The prevailing approaches become ineffective to mitigate the power quality issues at various system configurations under non-linear loads. To address these issues, modern approaches are necessary. The proposed method describes modelling of harmonic filter and capacitor bank to eliminate the higher-order harmonics and to improve the power quality indices pertaining to voltage and current harmonic levels. This method also improves power factor at PCC and voltage quality at LV side under various system configurations for both strong and weak grids. It can also contrast with various conventional mitigation approaches and to ensure magnificent improvement in power quality norms as per IEEE 519 standard on the grid. The performance is validated using a 11 kV two-bus radial system with linear, non-linear loads and renewable sources in ETAP platform.
