Smart Battery and Management

摘要

Conventional BMSs adopt the well-known master–slave control architecture, with only one controller, one current sensor, several distributed temperature sensors and module-level voltage sensors in a battery pack. This sparse sensor setup and centralized control result in insufficient sensing and control capability of the conventional BMS, making it difficult to ensure all cells operate in their best state and to cope with the fault propagation once either cell fails. Attributed to the advancement in micro-electro-mechanical system and chip manufacturing, there is an increasing trend to decentralize battery management capability from the pack level to the cell level, i.e., the future smart battery and management.
