Advent of Conformal Wearable and Wireless Systems

摘要

The recent development of wearable and wireless systems with conformal properties enables unique capabilities for the quantified assessment for the treatment of movement disorders. Additionally, the attributes of these conformal wearables further evolves the concept of Network Centric Therapy for the treatment of movement disorders. For example, conformal wearables can utilize a segmented wireless architecture with localized wireless connectivity between the conformal wearable and tablet while utilizing broader wireless access through a smartphone for the transmission of inertial sensor signal data to a Cloud computing resource. The implication is that any evaluation respective of a therapeutic intervention for resolving movement disorder symptoms can be objectively quantified by inertial sensor signal data and wirelessly conveyed to a Cloud computing resource for expert post-processing anywhere in the world. Additionally, conformal wearable and wireless systems can be conveniently mounted about effectively any prescribed aspect of the human anatomy by an adhesive medium. Beyond the scope of traditional research publications to elucidate the opportunities of conformal wearable and wireless systems, alternative strategies are addressed, such as through the resources available through the United States of America Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the United States Patent and Trademark Organization (USPTO). In summary, a global perspective of the advent of conformal wearable and wireless systems is presented in the context of evaluating movement disorder status in a highly quantified and objective manner.
