Explorations on the Stage Characteristics and Experience of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone in Its Development of the Past 40 Years

The Shenzhen special economic zone started from the development of “three-plus-one” trading-mix enterprises. Over the past 40 years, it has formed a leap-forward economic developmental path of “processed in Shenzhen—manufactured in Shenzhen—created in Shenzhen—innovated in Shenzhen” and experienced four stages of economic take-off, innovation advantages, scientific development and comprehensive innovation, with obvious characteristics of transformation and development seen in each stage. The development of Shenzhen has benefited from the tremendous energy released by reform and opening-up, and more importantly, from the technological innovation and continuous changes in the modes of development. Experience and enlightenment can be summed up from the aspects of reform, opening-up, innovation, industry, talent, and others.
